In response to the brief to design a community hub for an undeveloped part of the college campus, I conceived a concept inspired by a necklace. Through meticulous site analysis and iterative design critiques, I crafted a space that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings while providing expansive indoor and outdoor gathering areas. The design's pathway functions as a 'chain,' connecting various 'pendants' or buildings, offering both practical connectivity and visual intrigue. This approach ensures that the hub serves as a vibrant focal point, harmonizing functionality and aesthetic appeal for the college community.
We sculpted a sanctuary for meditation, hewn from a single line stone block. Mine at its entrance, a pivotal choice unfolds: ascend into darkness or descend into light. This architectural metaphor invites contemplation, urging us to confront fears and plumb the depths within, where our inner light awaits discovery.
Meticulously recreating a residential home in Revit, adhering to precise technical specifications. From foundation to rendering, every detail was meticulously crafted to ensure accuracy and functionality. This project showcases my proficiency in utilizing Revit as a powerful tool for architectural visualization and technical precision, underscoring my commitment to excellence in design and execution.
In this project, I depicted my journey with high blood pressure through EKG lines, symbolizing resilience. Two kidneys forming a heart represent my duality and determination. Utilizing 3D layers, I added depth, while a trio of lines embodies healing calmness. Together, these elements weave a narrative of personal triumph in design.
I recreated a historic structure in SketchUp, presented it in various rendering styles, and seamlessly integrated an ADU into the home, blending contemporary functionality with historical context. My final presentation included a concise poster board and I chose to written poem capturing the essence of the site, demonstrating my commitment to holistic design thinking and effective communication.
During our architectural drawing sessions, we were challenged to depict architectural objects in both 2-D and 3-D formats while employing traditional drafting tools such as the drafting table and triangles. Moreover, we delved into the intricacies of calculating shadows, a fundamental aspect of architectural visualization and design. Through these exercises, we cultivated a comprehensive understanding of spatial representation and the nuanced interplay between light, form, and shadow within architectural compositions.
Leveraging my proficiency in AutoCAD, we were tasked with creating a range of 3-D objects to scale with meticulous precision. We honed our skills in digital modeling and precision drafting, ensuring each object was accurately represented in three dimensions. By mastering the intricacies of AutoCAD, we were able to translate our design concepts into highly detailed and dimensionally accurate digital renderings, further enhancing our capabilities in architectural visualization and design.
At a young age, I embarked on the design journey for the La Jolla Historical Society, crafting a residence tailored for a studying naturalist. Inspired by the mesmerizing vistas of La Jolla's shores, my design showcases two rectangles, with one delicately cantilevering over the other. This architectural marvel not only embraces the coastal landscape but also offers a serene sanctuary for the occupant. Through a blend of creativity and vision, this project exemplifies my early passion for architectural innovation and environmental harmony.
As a team, we crafted a sustainable pavilion with a budget provided by our college. My contribution was a versatile community table, refined through iterative drawings and peer feedback. Our design featured a wooden deck, facilitating the emergence of seating, tables, and more. This integrated approach promoted unity, sustainability, and collaboration, fostering a dynamic space for student engagement.
The creation of our water feature project entailed the innovative use of cast concrete infused with a wood texture. Inspired by the harmonious blend of natural elements, our objective was to craft a visually striking yet organic focal point within the landscape. Through meticulous casting techniques and the integration of wood texture, we achieved a seamless marriage of materials, resulting in a captivating aesthetic that evokes both tranquility and tactile warmth. This project exemplifies our dedication to pushing the boundaries of traditional materials to create immersive and visually captivating architectural elements.
My final project showcased a meticulous, to-scale plan, section, and elevation of Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House. I introduced creative elements, including staggered sections to depict multiple levels, demonstrating proficiency in architectural drafting and a deep understanding of modernist principles. This project highlights my passion for architecture, dedication to craftsmanship, and commitment to creative expression.
Entrusted with the design of a mountain cabin tailored for retreat purposes, I embraced the challenge of crafting an architectural solution aligned with the prescribed program. My objective was to synthesize the client's vision with the inherent characteristics of the natural surroundings, culminating in a harmonious sanctuary that seamlessly integrates functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.
Our project involved designing and building a capstone addition to an existing bench, aimed at enhancing comfort and visual appeal. Through thoughtful design and construction, we successfully integrated a solution to adjust seat height while maintaining aesthetic harmony. This project showcases our commitment to improving functionality and enhancing user experience within architectural design.
At a young age, I participated in the La Jolla Historical Society architecture camp, where I was challenged to design a scholar's retreat and temporary residence for the historical society. Inspired by the serene beauty of La Jolla's surroundings, I conceived a unique concept to elevate the occupant and provide unparalleled views. The design features a single pillar supporting a rectangular cube placed on top, allowing for four 360-degree views of the breathtaking landscape. This innovative approach not only maximizes the experience of the surroundings but also provides a tranquil haven for reflection and enjoyment.
In this unique drawing assignment, we were presented with the challenge of drafting an object to scale without visual reference. The object was concealed under a box, requiring us to rely solely on our sense of touch to gauge proportions and dimensions. This exercise not only tested our ability to accurately translate tactile information into visual representation but also honed our skills in spatial reasoning and proportioning. By embracing this tactile approach, we developed a deeper understanding of form and scale, enhancing our proficiency in architectural drafting.
In our assignment, we were challenged to apply our drafting techniques to produce precise, to-scale drawings in both orthographic and axonometric projections using the metric system. This exercise required meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring that every line and measurement adhered to the specified scale. By mastering orthographic and axonometric projections within a metric framework, we enhanced our ability to communicate complex spatial relationships and dimensions effectively, essential skills for architectural drafting and design.
In my architectural communications course, I practiced freehand drafting to portray campus spaces in both one-point and two-point perspective. Focusing on proportions and spatial harmony, I honed my skills in translating three-dimensional environments onto a two-dimensional plane. This project underscores my dedication to precise visual communication in architecture.
